in some way , think " 1 word micro-rpg " is misnomer of at least what kossai do , but really others as well , because title and description both set up expectations in addition to actual game file , and graphic design can reflect tone as well .

but nothing is really as snappy as 1 word , because , well , that is what PDF always contain ! will get title page and credit blurb , sure , but actual body of text is just 1 word . this put in kind of funny position where meat of game is ... all of other elements , actually .

anyway , new 1 word micro rpg is up ... this actually go through several iterations . spoilers for game below cut .

do wonder about commonality of phantom organ sensations in particular . never really feel organs in same way as external bodily parts , but still subconsciously know sensations of weight and position , where even little differences can be internally detectable and lead to weird cascade of effects .

do sometimes get pain at actual incision sites , but never entirely sure if scar tissue , phantom pain , or mix of both . but swear also sometimes feel like actual phantom part is still there , even though was never consciously aware of how presence feel . shit is weird , that is for sure .

An anonymous reader sent us this cool thing:

I found a historic Brazilian example of plurality and wanted to share it with you. In the nonfiction book "Samba" by Alma Guillermoprieto, she describes Seu Malandrino, a dead man who sometimes possessed a favela-dwelling woman. Here's an excerpt from pp. 110 — 111:

-
On Mondays, Celina’s body was often on loan to a scoundrel by the name of Seu Malandrino, who wore her chunky, comfortable flesh with a menacing swagger, spit obscene words out of the corner of his mouth, straddled her only chair horseback-style, and kept his face wreathed in a halo of cigarette smoke.

The first time I saw him, while poking my head in Celina’s door and running directly into the stare from his dirty yellow eyes, I found him very frightening indeed. It took a couple of seconds before I recognized a face under the white boater hat with red trim and babbled an apology for the intrusion. “I’m sorry, Celina,” I began, and was cut short. “Celina isn’t here. My name is Seu Malandrino.” The voice was gravelly and sinuous… “Let the gringa come in!” he said to a frightened young couple sitting on the sofa, and to me, “Sit in that corner and shut up!”

like to keep files pretty well organise . there is one area that consistently struggle in , however : spirituality , magic , and religion .

for some reason , just can not keep any one solution in place for very long before another one sprout up ... and then another ... and another . by this point , definitely have 3 to 5 slightly different permutations of some things . on one hand , that is really neat way to see how thoughts change over time . on other hand , this is pretty useless to look through without some specific organisation scheme .

to get any use out of these random assemblies , kossai have to ... guess what ? make another organisation scheme . and that too will fall out of use , and therefore become part of cycle ... bah !!!

New story, hopefully short

I got started on a story in the Ravenstone universe that's a mystery story with horror elements in it. No spoilers! But it's in first person perspective for once; I usually write in third person omniscient selective perspective. I find I'm pretty good at first person, actually.

I *can* say that the POV character is an officer with the Pluviatia Security Agency, though so far I am avoiding any mentions of magic or the magical world. Being intentionally vague about who they work for, avoiding bringing it up as much as possible. So if the readers notice this, they'll already be trying to figure out what's not being said.

Anyway, their names are Charlotte and Julius. Charlotte is a young black woman, a lesbian, and she's the newbie. Julius is the middle-aged, grizzled veteran of the force, who has truly Seen Some Shit.

So far, I have four pages written, and while it's been going well, I'm hungry again and tired. So I'll be heading home soon. Would've gotten more done, but I spent at least an hour working out the characters and situation.

I tell you, though, this story might piss a lot of people off. Can't say why. :) All I can say is Charlotte will survive. I don't Kill My Gays, not unless there's a lot of LGBT characters. In theory. I actually don't like killing characters. I even feel bad for the Red Shirts -- characters brought in specifically to be there and then die horribly.

Wild dream

Just had the wildest fucking dream. I'm at one of my childhood houses with my family, playing with the cat, and then the cat runs off and catches a mouse. Before I can congratulate the cat for its catch, this mouse shits itself. Nay, what actually happens is this mouse produces an absolute fire hose of shit. It's like little thing's anus became a portal to the shit dimension and these extra long hot dog sized shits, but thinner, come blasting out like they're under the same pressure coming out of a fire hose.

Like really, this mouse is absolutely blasting ass ropes over everywhere at high velocity. It's on the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling, on people, all over the furniture, just absolutely everywhere. It is pandemonium! Everybody is freaking out. The cat is freaking out, I'm freaking out, my parents are freaking out, everybody is freaking the fuck out because this mouse is producing more shit than could possibly exist in a being so small. This mouse's mutant name would be Ass Blaster.

It finally stops, and I'm like, "I cannot help clean this because I have to go to work." I spontaneously get clean for work without any effort, managed to get out of the house without stepping on any shit (which must be due to the same magic powers that cleaned me), and I go outside.

What I find outside is this massive storm in the distance sitting on the horizon like an angry elder god ready to end humanity. It is this massive wall of weather backlit in red like it's the Upside Down from Stranger Things, but without the lightning, only I'm being blasted with gale force winds that almost knocked me over, and rain is with it too, because it's a hurricane or similar. I immediately go back inside and say something like "well I guess I can't go to work without dying from the giant storm," and then the dream ended and I woke up.

Due to switching webhosts for healthymultiplicity.com, our email is down and probably has been since Christmas. We are working on getting it up and going again.

Until then, if you have our phone number or the old email for the Greenough Hall MSTers Club, you can contact us through those. Sorry for the inconvenience; among its many failings, the old webhost has given me no sign of whether the emails I sent in the past week went out or not; on my end, it’s been acting buggily normal, and I’m having to guess it no longer works purely because nothing has come in for so long.

Recipe

Sometimes I invent "recipes" just by tossing stuff together on a whim. Today's whim recipe: Chicken soup, potato, carrot, and spinach soup.

Ingredients:

One can of cream of chicken soup
One chicken breast, diced (or half of one, if you want)
Two small potatoes or one large potato, diced
Two carrots, diced
Water: at least as much as is in the can of soup, though you may want more because of the veggies
A few handfuls of frozen spinach
Butter or other cooking oil
Chicken boullion to taste (optional; I used it because the only cream of chicken soup I had was low sodium)
Black pepper to taste.

Optional extras if you have them: mushrooms, diced onions.

First fry the chicken in butter or your oil of choice, until golden brown (or at least done). While you do that, start the cream of chicken soup and water heating up. When boiling, add the veggies. Reheat back to a boil. When boiling, turn to low and simmer until veggies are done. If you use mushrooms, you may need to start cooking them first.

I will add my verdict of the broth when I've tried it.

Okay, I've tried it. I really like it. It could use more carrots. Mushrooms would be a great addition. Could probably be even better with garlic powder.

Magical locks

Dec. 28th, 2025 09:45 pm
fayanora: pensive (pensive)
[personal profile] fayanora
Now I'm pondering what the inside of a magical lock would look like. Because there's two particular kinds of magical locks I'm thinking about:

1. Magical locks where the key is just a rod or a flat piece of metal with runes or other enchantments on the key that magically interact with the lock to open. Useful if you need multiple people to be able to access something, while still restricting access. Would make copying keys difficult, I imagine a lot of artificers go into key and lock making.

2. Magical locks without even a keyhole because they're blood-locked to you so all you have to do is grab and pull to open and nobody else can do that (maybe with you pushing some intentional magic into it or using a password you think at the lock at the same time, for added security, so nobody can force you to open it).

Either way, there's no tumbler, there's no pins or other mechanism inside. It's all magic. The only thing you need is the shackle or a bolt or whatever.

Literally pick-proof, the mundane way. Possibly there might be magical ways of picking it, but with a simple blood-lock (using a drop of your blood to bind it to yourself only) that would be made a lot more difficult. And such locks are often Adamant. You'd either have to be very skilled at picking magical locks, or you'd have to use magic to completely destroy the lock.

Now of course there are also spells you can put on the lock or the locked box/vault itself that can hit the would-be picker with offensive spells or trap spells. Or, if it's sensitive enough, destroy the contents before the lock can be picked.

But truthfully, I'm more interested in the physical mechanism. How similar to a mundane lock does the inside of a magical lock have to be? How much mechanism needs to be there? On the simple end: Obviously, since magic can move single items around, the inside can be as simple as the shackle goes in, a magical bolt locks the shackle in place. Just the two moving parts. Or better yet, have the magic hold the shackle in place and move it all on its own; just the one moving part.

On the complicated end: as fucking complicated on the inside as you want it to be. Gears, levers, springs, clockworks galore. As many runic arrays as you can fit into the lock and/or the vault door, each of them a different trap. Multiple bolts. Hell, multiple shackles, even. But in the end, one important factor is "if someone sucked all the magic out of this thing, would it open or would it be stuck closed? And which do you prefer?"

Obviously the "shackle only" design would fall open immediately if its magic was drained (which isn't an easy task in itself). "Bolt and shackle," with no keyhole, you'd have to either find a way to shimmy the bolt open, or destroy the lock. Or use your own magic to move the bolt. Same with more complicated locks.

I am, of course, interested in whether a magical lock could be made to be pick-proof. I've seen lots of lock-picking videos on YouTube by two different channels, LockPickingLawyer and McNallyOfficial. Most locks made are pretty shitty. Masterlock locks basically almost unlock if you so much as sneeze at them. The men on both of those channels can basically pick most locks in like three seconds. LockPickingLawyer has picked locks with all kinds of random things, from pieces of aluminum cans, to twigs he found outside, and many other things. McNallyOfficial has a recurring schtick of "This is (X brand make and model) lock. It can be opened with (another of the same lock)" and then he hits one lock with the other and it opens. He also uses pieces of aluminum cans. One video I saw had a stack of Masterlock locks at least ten locks thick, all held in place with vices, and he picked one after the other in a total of like ten seconds. All he did was ram a rake pick into the keyholes so violently that he basically was showing "hey, these take no fucking skill at all to pick. A toddler could pick this."

I think the most worrying videos I ever saw were the many, many, MANY videos by LockPickingLawyer where he picked the locks of GUN SAFES so quickly and easily that yes, a toddler could literally pick one of these things open in seconds. At least one of his "pick the lock with a random twig" videos was him doing that to the lock of a gun safe. I have concluded from years of these videos that "gun safe" is an oxymoron.

So yeah. Hence my wondering if magical locks could be pick proof. Basically me wondering if a pick-proof lock is even possible.

Oh and that reminds me: a few days ago I saw a video saying that before reliable locks, if someone needed to secure something, the best way to go about it was put it in a puzzle box. That way, either you have to know the exact trick of how to open it and be able to do so, or you have to be smart enough to figure it out, or you break the thing open to get at the stuff inside. So another possibility is "magical puzzle box." Or maybe a lock where you have to use the right sequence of complicated, difficult spells to open it.

Or something similar to the meme where the burglar forces the man to give his password, a keyboard flips down, and the second password is some ridiculously complicated piano piece.

On the magical security side, there's also spells that refuse to unlock the lock at all, even for the one person they're keyed to, if anyone else is in the room with them.

Anyway, another reason I started thinking about all this is because there's a scene in the current chapter I'm working on where one of the characters has to pick an extremely complicated and dangerous magical lock, that's part of a massive vault door.

Done rambling now.

Why is it worth your time?: This is self-declared pulp, and it embraces that genre. Deep art it is not, but it is entertaining. Weird Heroes was a series with the self-proclaimed central message of "Respect life and enjoy it," and the idea of a hero who works to rescue people's minds from the inside out is a pretty great premise! If you just want a fun, humble psychological adventure, this is worth a shot.

crosspost from tumblr .

recently mention that still implement some kinds of age restrictions for younglings here , but think good to talk about why exactly , and how kossai handle .

in any plural collective , children can have much more life experience than age would imply , and no longer exist within child body . most major age restrictions fall into one of these categories :

  • things that children can not safely accomplish with motor skills at this age - hence why children may get safety knives and plastic sewing needles , in effort to protect from injury
  • subject matters that children lack emotional or social maturity to handle responsibly alone - ideally , need adult guidance to talk through at appropriate level
  • things that would negatively influence development of brain and body , potentially hurt in ways that adults would not be - hence strict alcohol and drug laws

within plural collectives , though ? none of this is necessarily true . some will find that children can easily handle knives and drive cars , but need adult company to watch anything more complex than sesame street . sometimes , will be able to handle horror movies and raunchy scenes , but can not get dressed alone . sometimes might be fine to get high and chill out , and sometimes might negatively impact in way adults would not feel , even though not literally impact development .

age restriction is very personal as such - not only personal to collective , but to each individual child within collective . one of truly universal rules which have here is not to use public social media , or to talk with people who do not yet have discussion on how to handle young fronters . this is not because all younglings simply can not handle and be responsible , though this is true of some individuals , but because other people by and large do not know or care about proper respect .

often , other people get this idea that must baby-talk and become parental figure or such , to treat as burden rather than person - and honestly find fellow plurals to be worse about this than singlets sometimes . this is major frustration to everyone , so choose to cut off at source , as much as that also can frustrate . no real win , frustration either way .

other than that , though ? younglings do not necessarily have worse motor skills than adults , so what would be unsafe within milestone groups might not be unsafe personally . and to be clear , this can be very true of singlet children as well , as some families work hard to help with development as early as possible ! that in mind , both in home world and when front , even youngest here may be able to function with motor skills on par with adults . when certain tasks might be unsafe to accomplish , this is for same reasons as adults , not unique to younglings .

what is more impactful to kossai is emotional and social maturity . while younglings here still have many years more life experience than same-age singlets , and thus not exactly on par , this tend to be where young nature shine . as such , kossai do put restrictions on some media , as well as certain home world gatherings and events .

different age restrictions apply case by case to different media , events , and individuals - some flexible , and some not . some prohibit entirely to non-adults . some ask that adult be present for guidance , to be able to help and comfort . others allow solo engagement , but only if meet certain requirements personally .

( as mention last time , but feel might as well say again : kossai do lack memory barriers , and so knowledge about characters from any media is still accessible to all fronters . personal ruling is that younglings can play with any characters regardless of source media , but still must follow restriction for direct media or fandom engagement . there is simply no good way , or good reason , to try and enforce rules on private imagination and creativity . )

in any case , kossai do find that age in number is not always helpful - again , because of longer life experience , might compare to array of different milestone groups , not just one . these milestone groups also do not account for more personal quirks and needs - what might be OK to engage solo for one will need adult company for another , or prohibit entirely .

will also say that younglings here recognise and embrace differences from adults . to remain young here is , in at least some part , active choice - and just like some things belong only to adults , some also belong only to younglings . separations and limitations do not come from place of hate or over-protection , but to respect those differences and allow everyone happiness .

of course , this is how kossai do things . some of these things will almost definitely not apply to other collectives , but would encourage to think more about some of these points , and whether restrictions actually comfortable or ... well , too restrictive .

dedication !

hard to say that enjoy hoarders TV episodes , but there is something that draw back in . would say there is something of satisfaction with episodes that go well , and personally find importance in ability to see consequences and solutions . but unfortunately even good ones most often inter-cut with cruelty towards hoarders , between family members , and so on . subjects of show very clearly do not get near as much time or respect as deserve , and conditions built for TV , not for actual help .

so ... really happy to actually find cleanwithbea , who deep clean homes in horrendous conditions all for free , while protect client privacy and speak with genuine respect and care . there is also none of TV drama where subject only reluctantly agree , and then panic because completely upend house - bea specifically select for clients who self-apply , ready for whatever must be done no matter how extreme . breath of fresh air .

Anyone wanting to teach kids should be tested to make sure they have basic empathy for children & won't bully, belittle, or undermine kids. And test that they can & will do their job to the best of their ability. Too many teachers casually traumatize kids for no reason.

I personally don't recall any teachers doing that to me, but I keep reading about it happening to other people, and that infuriates me.
